Satisfaction as a mediating variable in the influence of work-family balance on the retention of Air Force permanent staff

Personnel retention is a current topic in the Armed Forces. Therefore, the present study seeks to analyse the relationship between Work-Family Balance, Job Satisfaction and Retention of Air Force Permanent Staff. A sample of 445 military personnel answered an online questionnaire. The results showed that both Work-Family Balance and Job Satisfaction are positively correlated with the Retention of Military Personnel and that the relationship between Work-Family Balance and Military Personnel Retention is completely mediated by Job Satisfaction. The results obtained can help the Air Force to take measures to increase retention and this was the first study to look at work-family balance in the Air Force.
