2025 Call for Papers: Law, Freedom, and Peace

2025-05-16

The RDL, run by the International Research Network on Lusophone Law (REDIL), is designed to bring forth legal studies with a robust interdisciplinary component and an attentive eye on contemporary issues of tangible significance to the Portuguese-speaking world and to the world at large.

It publishes articles devoted to a monographic theme — stipulated for each issue — as well as articles covering a broader spectrum of legal matters.

It also includes a section exclusively geared towards the study of paradigmatic case law from the courts of Portuguese-speaking countries and regions, above all from the higher courts.

It also has a section for reviewing articles, books, and book chapters, preferably those authored by Portuguese-speaking scholars or covering matters of Portuguese-speaking law.

Finally, there is room for news of events and other scientific initiatives involving REDIL members.

The 2025 thematic section will be about law, freedom, and peace.

Law, Freedom, and Peace

The RDL is inviting all those who are interested to submit articles for the thematic section of its first issue, dedicated to law, freedom and peace.

As we celebrate the freedom of all the countries of the CPLP, especially the ones celebrating the golden anniversary of their triumph, we will continue to uphold it under the sign of the communion of the lively spirit of liberated thinking with the prudent judgement of scientific culture.

This, however, goes hand in hand with something that extends beyond a commemorative occasion. After all, if we are to understand law, we need to appreciate the dimension of human freedom, expressed both on an individual level and in the social and political order.

Peace, in turn, is the way leading to the full enjoyment of freedom and the effective assurance of justice, and it falls incumbent upon the legal community to watch over its fulfilment.

Faced with the scourge of ongoing wars and other confrontational phenomena of catastrophic magnitude claiming lives and ravaging the world with pain and destruction, there is an unpostponable demand for the promotion of peace, the key building block on which stands the trustworthy promise of the integral development of our potential as human beings and as communities.
